Frequently Asked Questions (Change Your World Scholarship)

I want to apply for this but I'm not sure if I qualify.
To qualify for the Change Your World scholarship, you must be the son or daughter of one of our Women's Independence Scholarship Program graduates. This is not a general scholarship; you must meet this criterion to be eligible . Other eligibility requirements include: an unweighted high school GPA of at least 3.0, verified financial need, and the applicant's age must be between 17 and 25.

My mom received the WISP scholarship, but she didn't graduate yet. Can I apply?
You must meet the criteria stated above. If your mother is a past or current WISP recipient who has not yet graduated, you may not apply for this program until she has graduated.

I'm 25 now; will this scholarship end once I turn 26?
Not necessarily. To be accepted into the program, you can be no older than 25. We will consider Renewal Applications on a case-by-case basis and on availability of scholarship spots.

I don't see a separate Renewal Application for this scholarship. How do I renew?
The same form is used each time for both new and renewal applications.

How often do I have to renew?
You should renew for each academic year.

How is the scholarship awarded and paid?
Scholarships are awarded for the academic year and paid in the Fall and Spring terms for students in a semester-based program. For students in quarterly-based programs, scholarships are paid in the Fall, Winter and Spring terms.

If I get awarded in the Fall term, how will I get funds paid in the Spring term without doing a renewal?
Your award letter will instruct you to have your first term grades and next-term invoice sent to the Foundation. Once these are received, your second semester (or second or third quarter) award check will be released.

What if I don't get the minimum 3.0 GPA?
This scholarship requires that recipients maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA. We will look at both current term and cumulative GPA's to meet this requirement. This means that should your current term GPA fall below 3.0, we will look at your cumulative score to see if you meet the requirement. If neither of these scores meets the minimum, scholarship funds may be withdrawn.

If I lose the scholarship, can I still apply for a later term?
Yes, you can re-apply as long as you meet the eligibility requirements.

How much does the scholarship pay?
The maximum available is $3,000 per student per academic year. Up to 50 scholarships are available per academic year.

Will I get the maximum award?
Not necessarily. Awards are based on need. Students with lower cost of attendance and/or significant amounts of student aid may receive smaller awards. Keep in mind that Federal student aid rules require that schools cannot provide students with more aid than the official cost of attendance.

Will I get the same amount every year?
Again, not necessarily. If your cost of attendance and/or financial aid changes, your CYW scholarship amount may change.

I want to go to grad school; can I get funding for that?
Our first priority recipients are those students pursuing their first degree. Funding is available for graduate work based on availability. Applicants must still meet the eligibility requirements, including minimum/maximum age.

What are the deadlines?
The deadline for the fall term is July 1 st . For the spring term, the deadline is December 1 st .

Is the deadline date the date the Foundation has to receive my application or the date it is to be post-marked?
We accept applications by post-marked date. That means your application should be post-marked by the deadline date.

What if the deadline date falls on a weekend or holiday? If the deadline falls on a weekend or holiday, we will accept the next business day as the post-marked date. However, keep in mind that particularly in the Fall term, we receive many applications. Do not wait for the deadline date to send in your application. We date stamp each application as it arrives and look at them in date-received order.
