Frequently Asked Questions (Learning By Giving)

Are the programs available to post grads or students younger than college age?
No. The Learning By Giving program was designed to address the lack of course offerings in philanthropy and non-profit studies available to undergraduates. At this time the Sunshine Lady Foundation is interested in partnering with classes offered to undergraduates only.

Are there restrictions on how the students can distribute the $10,000?
Generally, we leave the distribution decisions up to the students. However, there are a few guidelines.
•  First, the recipients must qualify under 501(c)3 tax status
•  The $10,000 must be distributed in amounts of not less than $500
•  The spirit of the exercise is to give the students a hands on experience through all aspects of the project. Therefore, picking projects closer to home is preferable to causes in other countries. Although we are not making a statement about the relative merits of any one cause over another, we do feel that projects geographically closer to the school will allow the students to participate more completely in the process from start to finish.

My school doesn't currently offer a class in philanthropy and non-profit studies, what can I do?
If you think your school would consider adding a class in non-profit and philanthropy studies, pitch them on it and see what they say! If you need help, feel free to contact our program director at nancy@sunshinelady.org and maybe he can help.

I submitted a proposal and/or request for funding to a Sunshine Lady Foundation sponsored undergraduate class, how can I find out if my proposal has been accepted or rejected?
For the status of your proposal or request for funding, you will have to contact the class and/or school directly. The Sunshine Lady Foundation does not decide whether or not to fund individual requests sent to schools.
