I know someone I want to nominate; when will the nominations be open?
The Sunshine Peace awards are held every other year in even numbered years. Nominations for 2008 will begin in December 2007.

How do I get on the mailing list? Will you send me a nomination form?
You may email your name and address to nancy@sunshinelady.org and we will make sure you are on the mailing list. Yes, we will mail out nomination forms beginning December 2007 for the 2008 awards.

How do I get a nomination form if I'm not on the mailing list?
Nomination forms will also be available at our website.

What is the deadline for nominations?
The deadline is usually March 1 st , but you should check the nomination form as this date may change.

Does it help if many people nominate the same person for this award?
Recipients are chosen by a panel of long-time workers in the field of domestic violence, not by the number of nominations any one candidate receives.

Should I include additional information, other than what is requested?
Please only include the information requested. An overly long nomination form can be detrimental to the review process.

Some of the people chosen in past years work for programs I've never heard of. How did they get selected?
Honorees are chosen for many different reasons; some because they have developed a grass-roots organization in rural or hard to reach areas and others because of their innovative and ground-breaking programs. They all have one thing in common – they have changed their communities for the better.

How many Peace Awards are given each award cycle?
The number selected is based on the pool of nominees. Usually 20-24 people are selected for this honor.

How many people are nominated?
We usually receive about 150 nominations.

If selected for a Sunshine Peace Award, what does the honoree receive?
In 1998, 2000, 2002 and 2004 recipients were given a personal cash award of $10,000. In 2006 this was changed to a personal cash award of $5,000 and an additional $5,000 was given to the non-profit agency of their choice. Recipients also receive an all-expense paid weekend in Wilmington , NC where the award reception and dinner is held, usually on the first weekend in August.
